It prides itself on carrying students through to a professional level or a dance career however, Danceworks still offers many fun classes for children and adults. Examinations are available for children in Ballet, Modern Jazz and Tap.
All students will have the opportunity to participate in the end of year productions at the 'Regent on Broadway'.
OUR DANCE STYLES:
•BALLET
Danceworks is the home of ISTD Classical Ballet in the Manawatu and is taught from five years of age
through to Advanced Two level.
If students are serious and committed to a dance career RAD Classes are offered at a major level only.
A uniform is required for all Ballet classes and consist of a Leotard (colour depending on the class level),
ballet tights, shoes (either flat, demi or pointe depending on level) with elastic up to five years of age and ballet ribbons for the older children. Hair must be worn in a bun for all classes.
The uniform is available from Frances Hughes at the Dancewear Boutique at the studio or you may wish to phone her on (06) 324 7057 or 021 649 300.
'Rhythmic Rascals' is a very popular class for three and four year olds gearing the children towards Classical Ballet, however, some students when five years may choose to move to Modern Jazz or even both.
•MODERN JAZZ
ISTD Modern Jazz is taught from Pre-Primary at five years through to Advanced Two level.
Ballet training is a help with these classes at major level but not essential.
A uniform is required for all Modern Jazz classes and consist of a Danceworks leotard available from Frances Hughes at the Dancewear Boutique at the studio.
Lycra black footless tights are for examinations, however, many students wear bootleg pants over their leotard for class.
Jazz Shoes are needed from Grade Five upwards to assist with turns. Hair must be pulled back from the face.
•TAP
ISTD Tap is taught from Pre-Primary through to the Advanced Two Examination.
It is best to start Tap around seven years of age or up as students have more co-ordination and understanding of music.
If students wish to dance before then it is best to enroll them in Modern Jazz classes till they are old enough. This will give them a good base to start with.
The uniform for Tap classes consists of the Danceworks Modern Jazz leotard and bootleg pants available from Frances Hughes at the Dancewear Boutique.
Children may wear back socks or tights with their skirt and of course Tap shoes.
•HIP HOP
Hip Hop is one of the latest dance styles seen on Music Videos and Concerts worldwide.
There are classes available for fun from age six to Adults. The classes consist of a Warm up, stretches and learning a funky Hip Hop routine to the latest music.
No uniform is required for these classes however, clothing must be loose ie. no jeans.
These classes are huge so come along and check them out!
